Sisters In The Temple

Thursday, December 21st, 2000

Peaceful and so serene seem the sisters clothed in white,
Each one shining with a radiance clear and bright,
Smiling eyes, a gentle touch, hearts that know and feel,
Spreading the light of the gospel, they know God is real.

Walking in silence through the temple smoothly they go,
Nothing seems hurried, every gentle movement does flow,
No voices raised in anger, no cruel words ever come
From mouths that speak of love, as Jesus would have done.

Love glows around them as they serve day by day,
Showing hoe to live the gospel the real and proper way.
“Let your light so shine,” the Saviour told us all to do,
Come visit the temple and see that light shine through.

No one knows the joy that comes from serving here within,
Far away from the hectic life and the traffics noisy din,
Till you come and serve and then feel the blessing flow,
That makes the sisters radiate everywhere they go.

Brightly Shining Lights

Friday, December 1st, 2000

The lights were shining brightly, a warm welcoming glow
From the spire of the temple on the cold world below,
Yet everyone hurries passed, hardly any stop to call.
Everywhere is so quiet, very few people around at all.

Open arms are waiting to welcome all the patrons in,
Away from worldly troubles, away from noise and din.
Many quietly, patiently wait for all the folks to come,
Waiting for how long, for their work to be all done?

Maybe if the lights were brighter more would find the way
In through the doors of the temple, and so come and stay,
Then soak up the spirit and be fed by God’s great love,
Feel of all the blessing that flood from heaven above.

Maybe if the spire were higher, reached high into the sky,
More folks would see it, come in instead of driving by.
Enter and share the serenity that is felt in this holy place,
Enter in and bask in it and know of God’s good grace.

Maybe it will make no difference how bright outside may shine
The light has to glow in within the Saints, in your heart and mine,
Then the temple will be crowded, then patrons will be everywhere,
Serving themselves and others and feel God’s presence there.

A Forever Friend

Monday, October 23rd, 2000

I knew the moment I saw her we would be friends forever more,
As she stood serene and smiling near the classroom door.
As our eyes met, it was like an eternal link back to the past
Where we had been friends before, one that would always last.

First we shook hands and the warmth flowed right through
Each loving heart, and just at that moment we both knew
That this bond was forged in heaven by God’s loving hand,
We’d be friends forever, if we stayed with the happy band.

We worked close together helping the sisters learn to grow,
Binding our loving friendship closer wherever we did go.
Over the years we parted different tasks to perform,
But that love in our hearts was always cozy and warm.

Now we work in God’s temple, what joy that brings,
Bringing us together on His ever healing wings,
No matter where we wander, wherever we may go,
We will be eternal friends, in heaven and here below.

A Rose From The Temple Garden

Wednesday, October 18th, 2000

The October sun shone bright through a billowy cloud,
The garden still looked very lovely and rather proud
Of her show of colours that still bloomed everywhere,
And the scent of the flowers wafted on the cool air.

There in the rose garden still standing tall and strong,
Rose blossoms so fair, they surely cannot last long,
But so far they have survived a mild frost or two,
I wish I could pick one to last the year through.

I’ll take it, and press it, and treat it with great care,
Then in the cold winter months I’ll look at it lying there,
And remember the gardens when all the flowers grew
In beauty and fragrance, and colours of every hue.

The rose will remind me of God’s temple here on earth,
Of the beauty and the blessing that are of eternal worth,
Even the thorns will tell me that trials help us grow,
A thorn, just like the winter, is needed here below.

I think I’ll pick a red one to remind me of God’s love,
And wonder if flowers like this are in heaven above,
Where the fragrance will be eternal around God’s throne,
And maybe gather roses when He comes to call us home.

When Working In The Temple

Friday, October 6th, 2000

When working in the temple things may not be just right,
Some workers could be sick, some on holiday out of sight,
Not enough workers to do all the jobs that need to be done,
Especially if many patrons make up their minds to come.

A supervisors nightmare is when the room in very bare,
Surely there are some more, they are out there somewhere,
But somehow, with even just a few workers it works out fine,
For tis the Lord that runs the temple so things don’t get out of line.

The temple, to the patrons, looks tranquil, smooth and calm,
Everyone feels so restful, and free from worry and harm,
No one seems to notice all the gaps in the white ranks,
And for that blessing we offer the Lord our endless thanks.

So workers, please be fully committed to your duty here,
Come in all sorts of weather, come and feel Him near,
Feel of the healing balm, give your service the best you can,
For you’ll learn more of His ways and His eternal plan.

White Socks Giveaway

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2000

After going to the temple, off to the store we did go,
A lady whispered to her friend, “they’re Mormons you know,”
“How on earth do you know?” asked she in utter surprise,
The first looked us all over and seeming so very wise
said, “They are in Sunday best, yet white socks they do wear,
They have been to their temple that is just over there.”
I smiled and gave her a nod, to let her know she was right.
Then I stopped and thought about how I could shine bright,
So let people know, not only by the things that we wear
They will know we are Mormons that love and care.
May our actions label us “Good” a light that shines bright,
Be a missionary by our actions, and by choosing right,
So people who see us may one day be able to say
“They are Mormons because they are good in every way.”

Forever Mirrors

Sunday, September 24th, 2000

Have you ever gazed in the mirrors in the temple of the Lord?
Seeing your reflection going on and on forever more?
Looking and contemplating and learning of His word
By the symbolic beauty and so love God all the more.
The mirror facing one way could be generations now gone,
All your kindred dead linked to you in endless love,
The other, your future generations, those still to come,
Waiting for their turn to roam from their heaven above,
An endless chain of unity, linked in the temple so dear
Where knowledge flows so freely, if we listen carefully
As the spirit whispers many truths so plain and clear,
We can understand the scriptures and God with clarity.
We are one with others when their work we do,
Just in Gods temple we know that we can say,
We are one with others, this we know is true
As we step into the shoes of others in a special way,
Just for a short while we become them and in turn
They become us and so are one, what a wonderful feeling,
What great knowledge we can find and treasure all our days
Even just for a short moment, while in the mirror gazing,
So gain much understanding of God and His perfect ways.

Temple Visitor

Friday, September 22nd, 2000

How often do those pierced feet
walk the carpeted floors?
How often do His healing hands
open holy temple doors?
You may not hear the footfalls
or see His face serene,
But you will feel the quiet spirit,
know that He has been.

Does He look and see us working
for those now gone?
Does He greet them with open arms
when their work is done?

Sometimes you feel the joy from those
who accept and are now free,
Know of the blessings that flow
as they press on to eternity.

I wonder how often He sweetly smiles
as our callings we fulfill?
How often does he calm and comfort us,
heal us when we are ill?
Oh, the blessings of the temple that are ours,
they are too many to count,
For we are fed from God’s heaven above
by His ever bounteous fount

Fountain Of Water

Thursday, September 14th, 2000

There is a fountain of water so pure and clear,
Falling in sweet cadences in the temple garden here,
It is like the love of God, springing up for evermore,
Showering us with goodness as we His name adore.

Listen to the sound it makes as sweetly it falls.
It is saying “Come and serve,” please hear the calls
That are meant for you and me to share God’s love,
That fountain of purity that springs from God above.

Let us drink of the waters of life everlasting
And we will be filled with God’s blessings,
O water pure and clear that sparkles in the sun,
Fill us with His love, like when our life first begun.

May the temple fountain remind me of God’s love,
May it keep my feet treading to my goal of heaven above,
May it’s clarity and goodness remind me always to be
Like our dear Lord and Saviour, full of pure integrity.

A Light Within

Friday, September 1st, 2000

There is a light within the temple, it shines bright from each serving soul,
It’s warmth radiates with love and all have Gods kingdom as their goal,
Can you not feel it envelope you with a love that is truly divine?
It holds us all together and it will last throughout all time.

There is a light within the temple that shines bright from heaven above,
It descends, and rests on all who enter in, like a peaceful dove.
Have you not felt it’s comfort? Have you not felt its healing power?
It is present here for all to seek, and find every single hour.

There is a light in the eyes of those who work within these walls,
It shines bright in all the rooms and along the sacred halls,
It will light the way through darkness, show a much better way
To follow, than in the paths of darkness and a dark day.

So find the light within this sacred building shining so bright,
It will help you find the Saviour, help you always choose the right,
Let your temple light glow in this our world so wide,
Let it brighten each corner of your life, so sin cannot hide.

We need all the help we can find in this world of evil and sin,
So come into God’s temple and share the light that is within,
Fight the good fight and keep the temple in your sight,
And you will shine and show others the way to the sacred light.
