Even The Waves Obey Him

Saturday, March 9th, 2002

I haven’t been at sea when a storm rages high,

But I can almost see the fear in each troubled eye,

As the wind and the waves ripped the sails away

As they thought they wouldn’t be there another day.

Yet the Master slept, no fear in His heart did He know

Unlike His poor followers, great fear they did show,

A small fishing boat tossed in a wild stormy sea

Must have been terrifying for the men of Galilee.

They awoke the Master, He said, “Be not afraid,”

With words, “Peace, be still,” the storm was stayed,

The winds did cease and the waves were quiet and still,

The elements knew Him, so obeyed their master’s will.

The men asked themselves, What manner of man is he

Who the winds and waves obey, saved us from misery,

Perhaps then they began to realize who He was just then

That He would be the Master and Saviour of all men.

What to do With Christmas Cards

Tuesday, December 25th, 2001
WHAT TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS CARDS
Most folks have Christmas cards from far and near,
Wishing the family happiness, blessing of good cheer,
Homes have them on a string, some taped on the wall,
Showing of love of family and friends to one and all.

Now, when Christmas is over, decorations put away,
There is something you can do with the cards everyday,
Other than making Christmas gift boxes for next year
There is something wonderful, something very dear.

Every day when kneeling together as family prayer is said,
Pick a card out of a bag and pray for them with bowed head,
Remember them the whole day through with sweet love,
Pray for their well-being to the God of all, up above.

As the card comes out of the bag place it in another,
Then when one bag is empty start again with the other,
Do this all year through and feel the joy it will being,
It will keep Christmas in each heart, such a great thing.

What a wonderful thing to do with each Christmas card.
If everyone did this the world would not be cold and hard,
But warm and loving, full of kindness and pure light,
Because through each card Christ?s love shines bright.

What Do You Want To Eat

Friday, October 20th, 2000

Sometimes you are not sure what you want to eat,
You know you are hungry, but for fish, cheese or meat,
Or may some cookies or a cake, or just a sandwich,
You really do not know what will cure the food itch.

You look on the shelves and in the fridge and freezer too,
Nothing that you see in there will really seem to do,
You wander round the stores hoping to find the right thing,
But it does not work, nothing there will food joy bring.

You look around at restaurants with menus outside,
No, nothing there excites, you want to run away and hide,
At home you make a jug of juice and butter some bread,
And say a quick prayer of thanks before you go to bed.

Forever Mirrors

Sunday, September 24th, 2000

Have you ever gazed in the mirrors in the temple of the Lord?
Seeing your reflection going on and on forever more?
Looking and contemplating and learning of His word
By the symbolic beauty and so love God all the more.
The mirror facing one way could be generations now gone,
All your kindred dead linked to you in endless love,
The other, your future generations, those still to come,
Waiting for their turn to roam from their heaven above,
An endless chain of unity, linked in the temple so dear
Where knowledge flows so freely, if we listen carefully
As the spirit whispers many truths so plain and clear,
We can understand the scriptures and God with clarity.
We are one with others when their work we do,
Just in Gods temple we know that we can say,
We are one with others, this we know is true
As we step into the shoes of others in a special way,
Just for a short while we become them and in turn
They become us and so are one, what a wonderful feeling,
What great knowledge we can find and treasure all our days
Even just for a short moment, while in the mirror gazing,
So gain much understanding of God and His perfect ways.

What Will Be Said Of Me?

Saturday, September 23rd, 2000

What do I ask that would be said of me
When this earthly life is ended? What would it be?
That I was famous and powerful with gold?
That I was rich with earthly wealth untold?

No

I will not have won a medal for a race well run,
Or designed a building, the work well done,
Nor invented something that helps mankind,
Or won a Nobel prize for my great mind.

But if I have helped someone feel better one day,
Or shown a wanderer back along the way
That leads to life eternal, given a friendly smile,
Gone with a lonely person for that extra mile.

If I have by some act shown I love God my King,
Or written a poem that some sweet joy did bring
To a grieving heart or someone who needed aid,
Held a little child close when he was afraid,

If I love my fellow men and accepted love back,
If my heart, love, empathy and charity does not lack,
Or if I have taught the truth and followed the Lord,
Prayed, and felt the sweet comfort of His word,

If I have been a mother and true love given,
Been a wife, worthy of being together in heaven,
Sung praises to my God till the rafters did ring,
If this is what is said, then how my heart will sing.

What Word?

Wednesday, September 20th, 2000

What is this feeling that tells me that God loves me so,
Whispers in my heart that He makes all things grow?
What is it that sparks the mind enlightening me with truth?
What tells me Jesus is my Saviour without physical proof?
I know that Jesus lives and will love me throughout all time,
I know I have a Father above and one day heaven will be mine,
I know we have the truth restored in these latter days
That tells us of God’s goodness and pure eternal ways.
This knowledge means more to me than life itself,
More than untold riches or enormous mounds of wealth.
So what word could fit this feeling and knowledge so sweet?
One that tells me that one day, my family, and Christ, I’ll meet
If I’m worthy in celestial halls, where peace will always reign,
Is Testimony strong enough? Or should another word gain
The prize that would give voice that could proclaim
Oh, I know, I know that Christ will come to earth again?
Will come in all His glory and I want to be by His side
Shouting the proclamation, truth now cannot hide
This Testimony. Will this word then have to suffice
For the feelings of gratitude for His willing sacrifice?

Am I Worthy

Friday, May 5th, 2000

Am I worthy to be called mother dear?
My actions good, show God’s love is near,
Do I measure up well to that noble name
Or should I bow my head in utter shame?

Help me Lord to always choose the right,
Help me keep thy countenance in sight
As I press forward daily, striving to be
A mother worthy for now and eternity.

Help me pray for guidance and love,
Keep me aiming for heaven above,
Help me try to find kindly ways
With love, to guide though all my days.

Give me understanding dear Lord,
Help in me find a soft, gentle word,
A heart that will always judge fairly
And try no favourite child to display.

I long to be a mother fit for God above,
Fit to meet each child with perfect love,
Fit to see the family gathered all around
And so my eternal purpose truly found.
