Pain in the Neck

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I was talking to my daughter on the telephone today,
She said something funny, it gave me a smile anyway,
She said that her hurting foot was a pain in the neck,
I said I thought it was funny, but she was rather a wreck.
I am normally very empathetic and always show my concern
But surely this comment a little humour should earn.
Anyway cruel judgement this afternoon came swiftly my way
I knocked my funny bone and the door and needless to say,
That was a pain in the neck, and I really must admit outright
Then I laughed at that humour , but told no one of my plight.

So when you hurt somewhere and a pain in the neck it seems,
Smile at how funny it sounds and then in your sweetest dreams
Think of other funny saying that can take some hurt away
And maybe you can wipe with a laugh all your hurts away.

War

Tuesday, August 15th, 2000

War raged around like a wild beast,
Like evil carrion awaiting a great feast,
The very jaws of hell opened wide
As if to swallow everyone inside.

The air reeked of destruction and death,
It was a great effort to take a deep breath,
Humans lay like broken dolls on the ground,
I stumbled on hoping some life to be found.

The guns had stopped their raucous din,
The silence deafened my empty soul within
This moving body that seemed no longer mine,
Someone took my hand, told me I would be fine.

Hope glimmered just for a moment or two,
Till the sound of guns came crashing through,
Breaking the peace that would heal my heart
So I could go on to do my small part.

We were herded along like hungry cattle,
They told us it was to get out of the battle,
But everywhere was just the same sound
As guns roared and bombs hit the ground.

How long it lasted noone seemed to know,
A child found my hand as on we did go,
At last we rested just right where we were,
The child slept on my arm clutching her bear.

The bombs did not wake us that night,
For we were covered in a special light,
No more pain filled my weak frame,
Both the child and I were whole again.

We looked through the light, the child and I
And saw them cover us and others close by,
For us the war was ended and we were home,
No longer through hate and war to roam.

Oh man, who with cruel, thoughtless deeds
Thinks not of others and their simple needs,
Just wishes to conquer, cripple and destroy
Every man woman, even every girl and boy,
Stop and for a moment think of your deed
And look to your soul and take careful heed
Of the voice that may still be whispering CEASE.
You are the one who can bring about peace.
