Olympic Opening Ceremonies
Saturday, February 13th, 2010At last they have started, the Olympics of two-thousand ten
They have been anticipated, since I can’t remember when,
We have cheered the torch through many places everywhere
Across this our great land that is so free and truly fair.
The opening ceremonies brought tears to my ageing eyes,
Over eighty counties coming to win an Olympic prize,
Hundreds of athletes entering full of joy and pride
With the feeling of excitement none of them wanted to hide.
Spellbound millions watched that wonderful, inspiring show,
Many I feel would feel proud to be Canadian and tears flow,
Let us share that great camaraderie we felt watching yesterday
And sit back and relax as seventeen days just pass away.
A note of sadness for one young athlete from Georgia died
One athlete missing as his team mates walked side by side,
The whole assembly felt the pain and stood as they entered in,
It would be rather special if a medal that Country could win.
I must admit a lazy couch potato I am surely going to be,
As I watch the Winter Olympics my favourites you see.
I’ll try and imagine the pressure all those athletes must feel
I know they’ll do their best and if they fail I hope they heal.
