Too Much Rain

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

It dawned another dismal day, rain coming down,
Children stuck indoors ,parents wearing a frown
No washing hanging on clothes lines blowing free,
Just a cloudy picture of cool and wet misery.

The farmers need no more rain for crops to grow,
Now they need a warm glowing sun to show,
So dear mother nature please wipe your tears away
And tomorrow send us a true warm summer’s day.

Empty swings in the park no sweet laughter heard,
Quieter the morning chorus mute many an unhappy bird,
Heads of flowers hang down with the weight of the rain.
And I wonder will we ever see the warm sun shine again?

Just before the long awaited summer holiday began
The sun was shining brightly part of the great plan
For us all to enjoy sweet summer, now all is wet,
Maybe this year will be the wettest summer yet.

Lady Autumn

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

LADY AUTUMN

Lady Autumn comes in with elegant, gentle grace.

She is cool in the morning then, with a smile on her face

She sweeps across the earth with tender loving care.

Filling the whole day with healing, refreshing air.

No daunting, harsh winds from her presence come.

And only at night enters the much needed rain,

No coats are worn to protect us from her gaze

So my dear Lady you are worthy of our praise.

Please stay in your kind demure state of heart,

Linger a little longer and so do your valued part

To shrink the face of Winter, show you care

As Summer dies in your arms, stay warm and fair.

Give me the Wisdom

Friday, January 4th, 2002
GIVE ME THE WISDOM
Lord, give me the wisdom to see thy hand in the setting sun,
See thy great everlasting love in a brand new day just begun,
Feel they presence as I watch the branches of the trees
Sway too and fro in pure grace in the refreshing breeze.

Hear they voice speak in the roaring of the mighty seas,
Or the mummer of the of a stately river taking it's ease,
Listen to thee when the thunder rolls around before a storm,
And thy voice clearly calling to me in a spring newly born.

Help me see the wisdom when great adversity it given,
Remember the promise that we will never be driven
Harder than we can run, no load too hard you us to carry,
The wisdom to know that never near sin stop or idly tarry.

Wisdom to know I am Thy child and therefore of worth,
That our growing time is here on this beautiful earth,
That time is a great gift given in equal part to all men,
And to waste this gift will one day, us truly condemn.

Other gifts follow if true wisdom we are able to attain,
Kindness, a tender heart, willing to share others pain,
Know how to follow the Saviour along life's busy way,
So, dear Lord, for Thy wisdom in all things I humbly pray.

Our Missionary Tree

Saturday, December 8th, 2001
OUR MISSIONARY TREE
Near, years ago, where a great forest fire had been,
Are thousands of young pines saplings to be seen,
Pretty with bright green needles just starting to grow,
Then a thought came to us as past them we did go.

One of the very smallest in those thousands growing,
We would carefully remove when home we'll be going,
We'll call it our missionary tree, tend it with great care,
And when it grows bigger we?ll think of forests fair.

Look how close they grow. only a few inches apart,
We'll help by bringing one home to be close to our heart,
There is a trick to moving trees so they will feel at home,
It has worked with others we've brought after a roam.

Find out before you remove your tree, the north so true,
Tie a ribbon on a branch pointing to the north of you.
Then when you plant it with love make sure in every way
That the little north branch is, that's right, north we say.

Then as it grows we'll remember each friend in the north,
The missionaries we knew and friendships of great worth,
We'll remember the blessings that came to us every day,
And the beauty of the winter, that warmed is a special way.

We'll love our little tree and hope it grows big and strong
And we can tell our grandchildren, on a mission you belong,
Let us, we hope, our testimonies grow along with our tree,
That maybe serve another one, if not now, then in eternity.

Will Summer Never End?

Saturday, October 21st, 2000

I love it when fall feels like summer sweet,
With vivid blue skies, and warm air does greet
As we wander in the warmth of the October sun,
It is almost as if summer has only just begun.
Even the rain, when it falls is gentle and warm,
Another gift extra, no biting insects swarm,
So we can walk by the blue lake hand in hand
And gaze at the beauty of this our precious land.
The flowers lift their heads every morning anew,
Covered not in frost, but sweet refreshing dew.
I hope summer lingers in this fair land of ours
And fill us with joy and happy warm, sunny hours

Leaves

Friday, October 20th, 2000

Look! The leaves are almost gone from our shade trees,
That will mean no more raking of those falling leaves,
The compost bin is full, leaves dug into the ground,
Goodness knows what we’ll do if more come around.

This morning to my dismay I cannot see the lawn,
It’s covered by pesky leaves, it makes me quite forlorn.
Then as I look down the lane, there are still many leaves to fall,
And I know that it’s our garden where they will want to call.

I am sure we have a magnet somewhere on our land,
Or they are drawn to us my some large magic hand,
For here they come again, such a pretty sight to see,
On our lawn again, there resting so peacefully.

On day the wind may blow in fall the other way,
And I’ll look across the street and smile and I’ll say,
“I know how those folks feel” for our leaves are on their ground,
And somewhere deep inside some sympathy may be found.

A Good Day to Go Home

Thursday, October 12th, 2000

A mid October day, shone warm and bright,
The morning mist faded leaving a lovely sight
Of fall flowers, and a magnificent show of trees,
Even the air was warm, sent gently on the breeze.

A good day for a funeral, for my friend loved beauty,
She loved the sun upon her face, fall she loved to see,
She loved to sing God’s praises, thank Him for His love,
So I am glad the sun shone as she to went home above.

I’m glad flowers bloomed and some birds did sing,
For she would not want us to be sad, but bring
Back happy memories, times of laughter and love,
For she will be singing as she waits for us above.

Think how blue the sky was, how gentle the breeze,
How lovely the trees looked, flowers that please,
She would not want it any other way to say farewell,
Going home when the earth in it’s beauty looked so well.

Cathedral Of Trees

Thursday, October 12th, 2000

A majestic cathedral of multi-coloured leaves,
Greets those who wander through twisting lanes,
A special canopy of colour in the fall trees eves,
Come see, ere cold winter this great beauty claims.

The sunlight filters through the branches tall,
Making dappled patterns on the leafy ground,
The wind sings farewell to her sweet friend fall
And rustles the fallen leaves with a prayerful sound

No one can deny the beauty that they can see
Nature flinging far and wide her vivid show,
The land glows with pride and a sense of victory,
As earth gives her bounties and the land does glow.

What man can say, “I did this thing so bold,
This is my handiwork with a wave of my hand.”
As we gaze we know that the beauty we behold
Comes from God not man to this blessed land.

So we as humans, who are given a voice to praise,
Raise it high above the canopy of trees to the sky,
Thank God for His goodness, His kind, wise ways,
For the beauty of the earth, before in sleep you lie.

A Frosty Morning

Sunday, October 8th, 2000

This morning there was a layer of frost almost everywhere,
You could see it through the mist, feel it in the air,
And when the sun awoke on that cool autumnal day,
The frost sparkled like diamonds during it’s short stay.

The birds busy chatter on the lawn and in the trees
Have now faded to a few lonely calls carried on the breeze,
Although the hardy flowers still brightly bloom,
If these cruel frosts continue they will meet their doom.

For summer is dead and gone, bright fall taken her place,
But fall’s life is too short lived in all her beauty and grace,
For all too soon winter will come with frosty fingers cold,
Bringing with it, it’s own pristine beauty, lovely to behold.

Yet, I always shudder when through the morning mist I see
The first hard frost come in it’s warning, cruel beauty,
For it means that fall is almost over, giving her best always,
Another year almost over, now the start of cold winter days.

A Grand Day To Be Alive

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2000

The sun was warm and the sky so blue,
We walk all Ratray Marsh through,
The leaves were changing all around
And they made a carpet on the ground.

The lake was a much deeper shade
Than the sky, it sparkled as it played,
The seagulls swimming on the water
Looked like tiny yacht’s, never a falter.

The snapping turtles basked in the sun
As though summer again had begun,
Such a good day to feel so much alive
And see nature in all her fall pride

Everything perfect, the breeze just right,
A few loons resting on their long flight,
A few mallards waiting, no quack they made,
And there a fox hurrying through the glade.
