A Midnight Path

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

If sweet sleep does not bedim your weary eyes
Do not lay abed full of moans and sad sighs
This happened to me just the other sleepless night
And I dressed and wandered in the pale moonlight.

A midnight path was illuminated by the moon’s face
Double beauty given by the reflection full of grace
Mirrored in the lake so extra light came my way
Show well the midnight path more subdued than day.

There was a rustle of the bare trees as I wandered along,
It seemed to sooth my troubled heart with a simple song,
The air was cool but the wind was being kind that night
And the glow of the moon was becoming more bright.

I walked along the tracks that followed the edge of the lake
I even took the longer walk that I would normally take,
The silence was like a blessing of peace and harmony
And it brought a sweet and healing peace to me.

As I wandered home that night along the midnight path
I felt relaxed and knew that sweet sleep would now come to pass,
The pathway glistened with pebbles more precious than silver
And that walk for me did restful sleep at last did deliver

A Watery Sun

Friday, April 16th, 2010

When the day starts off with cloudy skies and a watery look in the sun
We seem to know there be a fall of rain before the day is done.
Yet it is a truly welcome sight in the early days of sweet spring
Because we see the snow vanish before our eyes and that is a blessed thing.

For it is like a tender touch of a lovers hand that turns things green
And helps buds of hidden leaves grow until the whole leaf is seen.
When added with following days with the warming touch of the sun
We know that life is there and spring has at last begun.

A few days of warmth and a day of rain with temperatures quite high,
Makes snow vanish and grass grow green a pleasing sight to the eye.
There is one large resisting pile of snow reluctant to melt away
But I am sure that soon even that monster will go without delay.

Welcome spring with your warmth and gentle rain bring life and hope to this place
Who has for much too long worn winter’s cold unrelenting pure white face.

No Snow in March

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

There is a strong northwesterly blowing really strong
And although the sun is bright and birds sing their song
It feels again like winter as the gale paints cheeks red
And you cannot even try to keep a hat upon your head.

It’s making every flag rolls rattle and the flags fly straight
And you for the first time you had a little more weight
For you need to hand onto something in case you blow away,
And I remember that March entered in a much different way.

It’s now the twenty fifth and this month there’s been no snow
And this wind is a big help as the clouds much too fast do go
To stop and deposit any precipitation that they may hold
And as my old gran would say, “the wind is much too cold”

Since I have lived in Canada and if we keep on this way
It will be the first March that snow did not come to stay
For a few days as cold winter seemed to want to linger more,
But I am hoping that spring will win and colour again restore

Like a Lamb

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

March has entered like a lamb with warmth and a gentle breeze,
No falling snow and blustering winds that often cut and freeze,
But sweet and spring-like she gently wafts onto her yearly stage
To perform her annual act, I wonder what I’ll write on her page?

Yes, coming in like a lamb so far that is, this year is quite true
With lovely warm sunshine and the sky of the brightest blue,
The whole week the weatherman says will be warm and glorious,
The snow melting before our eyes without any trouble and fuss

I would love to tell the tale of the warmest march that’s ever been
Early flowers showing through and no snow at all will be seen,
I have already heard the little song of the white-throated sparrow,
And I am sure more feathered friends will come to wipe away sorrow.

Please Mother Nature let us have a long and gentle march this year
No going out with the roar of the lion so bring the world no pain and fear.
A perfect March like a fair maiden dancing in warmth on the stage of life
Releasing all of us early from the cold bands of winter’s cruel strife.

Sing a Song

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I will write a poem to sing to about the start of spring,
The feeling in the air that sweet warmth does bring,
Unwelcome snow melting right before my eyes
An early spring up north what a wonderful surprise.

chorus

So let us all rejoice and welcome warmer days
Hope of a healing breeze and sunshine’s warm rays,
Come back birds and sing your sweetest melody
Announcing that from winter we are now set free.

Come, March and be kind, April give up your moody ways,
Give us sweet gentle rain and lovely long bright days,
We need a break from winter need flowers to come through
Come brighten up our days and make our dreams come true.

Chorus

Lets put away our heavy coats, long scarfs and mittens too
For we want to sing a joyful song, help spring come smiling through,
Lets welcome spring together and sing this happy, joyful song.
Come along and learn the words so we can all sing along

chorus

Not Really Snow

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

I hear a summer bird song, when the winter wind blows
And I can see all the white flowers when it snows,
The hoarfrost turns into early blossoms before my eyes
This vision brings me a great gift as my cold winter prize.

I bathe in lavender or lilac, then the vision is more complete
As an icy winter day I once more I have to face and greet.
So winter can become a friend now I am older and can’t play
With most of the toys and sports that can come my way,

But sitting seeing blossom and flowers and smelling spring
I’ll soon enjoy the Winter Olympics which is a very good thing.
The best of both worlds with imagination coming my way,
And it surely shortens winter by many a long cold, icy day.

As I Ponder

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

AS I PONDER

As I ponder awhile and be amazed at the beauty I see,
A late summer’s day comes quietly to greet me.
Not in a blaze of sunshine, for she has hidden or face,
But the scenes all around are still full of sweet grace.

The mist on the lake gave an ethereal soft glow,
And the glide of the loons as they swim to and fro
Seem to bid us farewell before they must fly away,
I wonder will they be there at the end of the day?

The harvest is bountiful already, with still more to come,
Before dear summer and fall are over and done.
A gentle breeze rustles the now changing leaves
I hope I am grateful for the gifts I always receive.

As I ponder awhile and gaze at the things all around,
Wherever you are there is beauty to be found,
Lift up your heart and seek through these days
All the beauty of mother nature in her wondrous ways.

Acid Rain

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I am rain, I should refresh and cleanse as I fall,
Not burn and sting and almost be a cruel curse,
I gather moisture from polluted seas and lakes
Absorbed into filthy air that should be pure.
As I come down I weep at my tainted state,

Because you see, I am not the one t o blame.

For the Beauty of the Earth

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

There is a cluster of wild flowers beneath the lilac tree,
Ragged robin, willow herb and daisies for us to see,
They look just as lovely as the ones that were planted by me
In fact I think they are prettier in their wild majesty.

All the moods of the trees as they stand tall and strong
From swaying gently in the breeze singing a sweet song,
Then anger showing the backs of the leaves just before the storm,
As they howl in pain and anguish and me all safe and warm.

The lake can be a mirror giving a reflection in perfect symmetry
Or surrounded by ruffles of lace as the waves beat restlessly,
The mood does not matter for great beauty is there,
But there are times when sailors should always take care.

Looking at the massive expanse of the sky on high
So many types of beauty can meet the upturned eye,
From vivid blue when no clouds ever appear
To clouds that may fill you with a little fear.

All the creatures great and small that fill the earth
Each one has a place and all of them of some worth,
We are truly blessed if we can see, feel and hear
And appreciate the beauty of this universe so dear.

The lights in the night sky, and each sunrise and sunset,
The moody wind, sun and rain, people we have met
Make this world special in in a wonderful way
So let us show our gratitude for every single day.

Morning Glory

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

I was awake early this morning and saw the majestic sun arise,
Her rays sifting dark clouds touching them with gold, such a prize
To start the day, and I am glad I was awake that beauty to see
And the birds sang in appreciation in sheer abandoned revery.

I knew the day would be fine for the sunrise was not showing red
A sign of bad weather, so by many wise folks it is often said,
Now I know why the gold flower so wild is called, Morning Glory,
For the golden rising sun tells us of a coming happy story.

Within the hour the sky was as blue as a sweet forget-me-not.
All the rain and thunder clouds rolled away, of rain not one spot,
But a warming sun giving hope of a truly wonderful sunny day
And all the confined children can run happily outside and play.

I remember late last night the sun set wearing a rich red dress
And far and wide those rays the whole wide sky did caress,
Almost like the fragrant petals of a glorious dying red rose
As that day fell gracefully in sweet and gentle repose.
